Conservation Treatment // Museum Artwork
As part of the research for the exhibition “The Chiaroscuro Woodcut in Renaissance Italy”, technical study was undertaken of a newly acquired, early impression of Antonio da Trento’s Martyrdom of Two Saints. The print was purchased for this purpose by the Prints and Drawings Department in 2012, its compromised condition making it a suitable candidate for extensive instrumental analyses. This video documents the conservation treatment of the print, and highlights findings that contributed to a larger study of the materials, conservation, and preservation of Italian Renaissance chiaroscuro woodcuts.
